In Wisconsin you can buy a tiger. . . or two without much effort. Watch this frightening video from ABC News on backyard zoos and the commercial enterprises of exotic animals in our state.
City Councilman Rob Vande Zande will discuss his plan for ordinances that would combine a ban on ownership of exotic animals with restrictions on pit bull “owners.”
Prohibiting people from owning or possessing any wild or exotic animals such as primates, raccoons, skunks, foxes and wild and exotic cats is a move in the right direction for Fond du Lac.
However lumping pit bull restrictions into this proposal is wrong.
One restriction would require outdoor pit bulls to be kept on a leash no longer than 4 feet. Pit bulls also could not be outside unleashed in a fenced yard. A full list of the restrictions is available from the link below. This proposal is shortsighted and should not be part of the exotic animal restriction.
The Fond du Lac City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 25 in the Legislative Chambers of the City County Government Center, 160 S. Macy St. The public is welcome to attend and citizens have the opportunity to speak for up to five minutes on any agenda item.
