Feds Cite Madison Lab In Monkey Death

MADISON, Wis — A clinical trial laboratory in Madison has been cited by federal agricultural officials for an accident that caused the death of a monkey.

A report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service says a monkey recently became entangled in a piece of play equipment at Covance Laboratories and died. The USDA said Covance has made changes to make sure a similar accident doesn’t occur and will not be fined.

The Wisconsin State Journal reported Covance issued a statement which says it takes its ethical and regulatory responsibility for its research animals very seriously.
