OSHKOSH, WI – An Omro man is sentenced Wednesday for beating a puppy to death with a baseball bat.
19-year-old James Albright, III will spend the next six months behind bars. He beat a rottweiler puppy to death in Oshkosh last September after he was told he couldn’t have the dog because of poor living conditions at home. He told police if he couldn’t have the dog, no one could.
Colleen Bradley, Albright’s attorney says, “What he did was wrong. It was against the law. The dog shouldn’t have had to suffer in the way it did.”
Judge Karen Seifert, Winnebago County Branch 4 said, “If you care about something and you worry about the dog if you couldn’t have it, it isn’t logical. You wouldn’t cause this sort of death to that animal.”
Scott Ceman, Deputy District Attorney says, “I think the condition of jail time sends not only a wake-up call, but appropriate punishment, as well.”
Wednesday’s sentence comes after a plea agreement. Albright is also forbidden to own any animals for the next five years.
