UW-Madison has snuck a non-financial motion into the budget bill that the Joint Finance Committee passed. If it becomes law, researchers will be exempt from all sections of the state’s crimes against animals law.
They may resume killing sheep by means of decompression and keep instigating fights between mice, starving piglets and withholding water from monkeys. Nothing they might do would be prohibited under state law on grounds of cruelty.
