Hunting and Trapping on Dane Co. Park Areas

When thinking of Dane County parks, one doesn’t normally envision the trapping of animals, but it’s a sad truth that this is most definitely a reality.

Under limited access permit, Dane Co. Parks allows for trapping of several fur bearing animals such as raccoon, beaver, and fox. One can only imagine the fear and pain these innocent victims experience during the trapping procedure.

A simple google search for “trapping” brings up gruesome images of dead creatures alongside grinning idiots and (more than not) children brought along for the ride. Not only is this inhumane, it is wrong to expose young children to the killing of animals. And it is sadly ironic that the plush stuffed toys and Disney cartoons which children love often feature the same species of animal that Grandaddy traps and kills. How messed up is that?

There will be a public informational meeting on Hunting and Trapping Programs on Dane County Park and Natural Resource Areas on Monday May 9, 2011 at 6:30 p.m at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, 3101 Lake Farm Road, Madison. More information below.
